In Fitchburg, Massachusetts and in other states, Strange Paradise was featured in ads on the daily TV listings page. The example at the right comes from the Fitchbug, MA Sentinel from October 1, 1969, and shows Strange Paradise as a prominent feature of the prime time lineup for WTEV-TV, Channel 6.






June 23, 2008 - Oakland, CA Tribune 9.9.69
Strange Paradise debuted in a number of US markets in September, 1969, over a month before it would appear on Canadian television. Most markets carried the show in prime time. In many of these markets, Metromedia Television (a co-producer of Strange Paradise) ran ads touting the show. At right is an example of a metromedia ad, advertising Strange Paradise on its local afilliate, KNEW-TV, Channel 32.

The photo at right was taken on the set of the drawing room in Desmond Hall and features actresses Trudy Young (Susan) and Cosette Lee (Raxl) in a candid moment, with a special appearance by a boom microphone.







June 9, 2008 - CBC Note to Steve Krantz
At right is a note dated August 27, 1969, sent from Doug Nixon, Director of Entertainment Programs for the CBC, to Steve Krantz regarding the CBC's agreement to purchase Strange Paradise for its Fall schedule. The note mentions that the show will run in the 2-2:30pm timeslot, with a late September start date. This was later changed to October 20.






June 2, 2008 - New York Times 6.18.69
In June of 1969, one of the earliest newpaper mentions of Strange Paradise appeared, in the form of a shrot article in the New York Times. The article mentions that Strange Paradise will be the first syndicated daily drama for television, and that it would be co-produced by Metromedia Television, Kaiser Broadcasting and the CBC. In fact, at the tme of this article's printing, the CBC's cooperation amounted to an agreement to shoot a pilot episode. Distribution agreements with the CBC would not be finalized for a few more months.
