When Holly descends the stairs into the crypt, all of the lights are off (image 1) and she uses a candle for light. However, when she returns upstairs all of the lights are suddenly on (image 2), even though she has only been in the crypt a few minutes and no one else was awake. |

| |
| EPISODE 12 |
Jean Paul and Mrs. Marshall share a number of acquaintances, including the Stradmore Qualleys, the Medger Adams and Chicken Bunny Revere. Despite this, they apparently have never met before. |
On Maljardin, Jean Paul gives Mrs. Marshall the Crown room, named after Maximilian and Carlotta, who stayed there. Maximilian and Carlotta were real historical personages, with the former being famous for being the last Emperor of Mexico, appointed by Napoleon III, who was executed on June 11, 1867. |
When Raxl summons the Conjure Man, Quito is initially afraid, but she reassures him that the Conjure Man will not harm him "again." What the Conjure Man did to Quito is never fully explained but Quito is mute and also walks with a limp, so perhaps these things were inflicted by the Conjure Man, or perhaps it is something else. |
During the shot where Raxl appears in Vangie’s mirror, a long line (the edge of the set in which Cosette Lee stands) can clearly be seen superimposed over Vangie’s hair, most likely due to misalignment during the chromakey overlay process used to make Raxl seemingly appear in Vangie's mirror. When Raxl disappears, so does the line.

When Holly is going up to bed, the clock strikes 7 times, indicating, if the clock strikes on the hour, that it is 7pm. |
In the previous episode, Jacques tells Jean Paul to bring no more people to the island, yet Jacques himself invites Mrs. Marshall to Maljardin. |
Alison appears in the credits, but not in the episode |
| |
| EPISODE 13 |
In the opening scene, Jean Paul is possessed by Jacques, yet the red ring, which indicates the possession, is clearly not on his hand. |
Papaya is indigenous to Maljardin, and a dish made with sliced Papaya and lime juice is a local specialty. |
During her discussion with Holly, Mrs. Marshall mentions that her diamond and emerald clasp, which Holly stole from her, was worth $3,500. Holly is disappointed that she only got $200 for it when she sold it. |
| |
In this episode we learn that Quito has a cockatiel named Chalcko (img 1). In addition, Quito has a small furry animal (perhaps a gerbil) as a pet. Its name is not given (img 2). This episode marks the first appearance for both pets. While the gerbil-like pet is never seen again, Chalcko makes a number of repeat appearances. |
| |
| |
This episode tells us that there are plants unique to Maljardin that have special, but unspecified powers. |
This is the first episode in which Mrs. Marshall’s first name, Elizabeth, is given. |
When Tim and Holly look out the window of the chateau, both it and the entire wall of the chateau are clearly wobbly. |
Although Jean Paul is alone in his chateau, he implies that he is not alone on Maljardin, mentioning that there are natives on the island. These natives are never seen, however. |

Jean Paul is possessed by Jacques for almost the entire episode, only reverting to himself in the last minute. |

As Mrs. Marshall and Raxl talk, the shadow of a boom mike can be seen passing across them. It appears again on Mrs. Marshall’s back when she is talking with Holly. |
When Quito is looking in to his cockatiel’s cage, one can clearly see that Kurt Schiegl is missing part of his middle finger on his left hand. |
| |
| EPISODE 14 |
Jean Paul is seen entering information into his “death diary”, which he then places in a secret compartment in a nearby wall. This diary is only seen once more, in episode 16, when Jacques takes it out of the wall. After that, it is never seen nor referenced again. |

When Jean Paul talks of the doctors he is consulting with regarding Erica, he mentions a Christian Sundverg from Copenhagen, who is an expert in organ transplants. Alison has heard of him as well. |
Vangie tells Reverend Dawson that she and Raxl share the same blood, which, if meant literally, indicates some familial relationship. This is not explained, however. |
The temperature in the cryogenic (or cryonic, as it is used the series) capsule is -320 degrees Fahrenheit. However, none of the actual dials says anything like this. |
| |
In speaking of the people on the island, Jean Paul attempts to say that he prefers the terminology of “detained guests” to that of “prisoners”, but it actually comes out as “I prefer the technology of detained guests.” |
Vangie indicates that three flights a day take off from the islands. |
This episode shows that Jacques' possession of Jean Paul is becoming stronger, as indicated by the fact that he now knows things that Jean Paul did in the past, such as contacting doctors about Erica’s condition. |
When Jean Paul speaks with Alison on the couch, a fly can be seen buzzing around his head. |
When Jean Paul is talking to Alison in the drawing room, the name on the painting can be seen over his shoulder. Maries Anne Des Mondes – 1808-1835. |

At the Cafe, when Dan Forrest moves to look at Vangie’s tarot cards, he knocks over her drink, which spills all over the table. However, both actors act as if nothing had happened. |
This episode opens with the sound of drums beating, the only time this would happen in the series. |
In her tarot reading, Vangie mentions that those on Maljardin are in danger from the King of Coins, which clearly refers to either Jean Paul or Jacques. However, in earlier episodes, Jacques is referred to at the Nine of Swords or the King of Swords. Similarly, Dan Forrest is represented by the Knight of Pentacles in this episode, whereas in episode 8, Vangie refers to him as the Knight of Clubs.
| |
| |
This episodes features the first appearance of Vangie's father, the Conjure Man. In addition, we learn that the Conjure Man is blind. |
| |
During this episode we learn that Alison and Erica's father is still alive, and needs to be notified of Erica’s death. Dialogue hints that he is some type of scientist as well. |
When he arrives at the Cafe, Jean Paul orders the Reverend and himself a Gin and Tonic. This marks the first meeting between Jean Paul and Rev. Dawson |
When Dan Forrest first talks to Jean Paul in the café, Jon Granik clearly takes a glance off screen, possibly at a cue card or teleprompter, before delivering his first line. |
When Vangie mentions to Jean Paul her father’s warning of evil, there is a cutaway to the Conjure Man issuing this warning. When the scene cuts back to the café, the Conjure Man can still clearly be heard delivering a couple of words offstage. |
| |
Raxl, Holly Marshall, Elizabeth Marshall and Tim Stanton are all credited at the end of the episode, yet they do not appear. |
