Maljardin Arc
EPISODE 8

On Maljardin, Jean Paul is in a secret room containing a tape recorder and camera, which is focused on the cryogenic capsule in the family crypt. He dictates a message to Erica, expressing the hope that she will soon return. While watching the monitor, he sees Dr. Carr on asking Erica to help convince Jean Paul to stop his cryogenic experiment.

Later, Jean Paul and Alison talk. Quito has gone to the mainland but is now stuck there due to the weather. Alison mentions to Jean Paul that she knows of Dr. Menkin’s death. She asks him how Dr. Menkin died. Jean Paul tells her that he fell, but insists that there will be an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. He mentions that the docks are steep and that he tried to stop Menkin but he fell head first. Alison says she is frightened and needs to get away, but Jean Paul dismisses her fears. Alison then mentions that Jean Paul seems like he is two different people on occasion, and that Raxl says he is possessed.

At the French Leave Café, Dan Forrest and Vangie talk. Dan mentions that he cannot leave due to the weather. Vangie asks him what is on his mind, and he tells her that wants some answer as to why Jean Paul has been behaving so oddly lately. He also asks Vangie if she has ever heard of Jacques Eloi DesMondes. Vangie asks where Dan has heard that name, and he shows her the contracts that Jean Paul (Jacques) had signed for him. Vangie is upset at the signature, but tells Dan that is must be a joke and that Jacques should remain dead.

Back on Maljardin, Jean Paul is interrupted in mid sentence and possessed by Jacques. He chastises Alison for even mentioning the idea of his being possessed, saying that Alison treats cryonics like witchcraft, yet she is willing to just believe Raxl’s stories. Alison insists that Jean Paul is two different people – Jean Paul, and one a lot like Jacques, the man she dreamed about. She tells Jean Paul (Jacques) that they all should leave the island. Jean Paul refuses to allow this. Alison declares that she will leave with Erica and give her a proper burial. At this point Jacques’ spirit leaves Jean Paul. Jean Paul tells Alison that it was wrong to deny Erica a funeral, but he is afraid to lose her. Alison points out the change that has just come over Jean Paul, after which Jean Paul hears the voice of Jacques congratulating him. He excuses himself with a headache and exits, leaving Alison alone and confused.

At the Café, Dan Forrest mentions to Quito that he needs Jean Paul to sign the contracts again. Quito indicates that he can’t get back to the mainland immediately and that Dan will have to wait. Vangie tells Quito to protect the papers and trusts him to have Jean Paul sign them. Dan tells Vangie that the phony signature bothers him, but Vangie questions whether it was really phony, saying Jacques was a demon. She informs Dan than the conjure doll and pin were created because Jacques was a murderer and was sentenced to hell. She says her father was the judge that condemned Jacques. Dan refuses to believe the story. Vangie asks Dan to pick a tarot card and he draws the King of Swords. Vangie explains that everyone is represented in the tarot deck, with Dan being the Knight of Clubs and Alison being the Ace of Cups. As she explains, Quito enters and indicates that the plane is now able to take off and Dan is able to depart. Vangie promises to be Dan’s lookout while he is gone. After Dan leaves, Vangie muses on the fact that Dan picked out the card of Jacques Eloi DesMondes
