Jean Paul is at Erica’s capsule laying flowers. Dan watches him and shakes his head, then tells Jean Paul that he’s concerned about his obsession with Erica. Jean Paul once again professes that Erica will live. Dan is skeptical and tells him that Erica would not want that as God did not intend it. Jean Paul tells him that on Maljardin, he is God. He mentions that all he is doing is fighting for the woman he loves, but asks to continue the discussion later and leaves. Dan warns him that blending fact and fantasy won’t work.
When Jean Paul is alone, Jacques speaks, declaring that Jean Paul is his own worst enemy and therefore his enemy as well. Jean Paul denies this, saying that Jacques is the real enemy. Jacques cautions Jean Paul about his optimism that voodoo will return him to where he came. After all, no one knows that he speaks with Jean Paul. Raxl enters and hears Jean Paul talking to himself and is concerned. Jean Paul doesn’t know what to say so Jacques possesses him. Raxl asks if she should call Dr. Carr but Jacques says he is fine. He asks for kippers, which Raxl says he hasn’t had in years.
Dan tells Jean Paul/Jacques he is compounding a felony with his behavior regarding Erica, but Jean Paul/Jacques dismisses him. Raxl returns and says Alison is busy in the lab. Jean Paul wants to go to the lab, but Dan dissuades him in order to talk more regarding Erica and the lack of the death certificate. Jean Paul explains that if he reported the death, there would be an autopsy that would ruin his plans. Dan expresses his frustration and says he has murder on his mind, i.e. the suspicion that Jean Paul did something. Jean Paul resents the implication and asks that Alison just simply sign another death certificate. Unaware that Jean Paul is currently possessed, Dan is confused by Jean Paul’s change of mood, as is Raxl.
As Alison works in the lab, Jean Paul/Jacques sneaks in and taps her on the shoulder causing her to jump. Alison tells Jean Paul that she is engrossed in Menkin’s library. Menkin’s notes and books indicate that he might have been interested in cryonics. Alison asks Jean Paul if Menkin came up with the idea of freezing Erica. Jean Paul says it wasn’t his own idea. Alison questions Menkin’s interest in genetics and cellular regeneration, and tells Jean Paul that she has seen projections for experiments but no results, nor can she find the file on Erica. She questions if Erica’s death was a sudden one. Jean Paul says he knows nothing but Alison is skeptical of his truthfulness. She asks him if he took the cyanide that is missing, but he denies it. Before Jean Paul can speak more, Dan enters. Jean Paul leaves and Dan and Alison discuss his apparent split personality. Dan says it’s Jacques, but Alison is unsure. Alison confesses to being upset but she realizes that the only way off the island for all of them is for her to sign a new death certificate. Dan is surprised that Alison might believe in cryonics. She confesses there are many mysteries and she will find them all. Alison is hungry and excuses herself. Dan remains in the lab to examine things.
In the drawing room, Jean Paul/Jacques pours himself a drink and is concerned that there are too many questions. He vows to make a move before anyone else can attack |
