A storm bears upon Maljardin.  In the main room, Jean Paul sits on the couch.  Pouring himself a drink, he sends for Quito and asks where Raxl is. In the temple, Raxl is reading the Tarot.  She prays over the cards.  At the same time, Vangie is reading the Tarot.  Raxl asks that Vangie be lifted to the temple to fight against evil.

Jacques speaks to Jean Paul and questions why it is storming, and Jean Paul suggests it’s due to his evil influence.  Jacques tells Jean Paul that he can do nothing without him, insisting that they are one and the same.  Jean Paul goes to throw his glass at the painting of Jacques but stops due to Quito’s presence.

Holly enters and Quito pours her a ginger ale.  She tells Jean Paul she’s scared to sleep because she’s been having odd dreams.  Jean Paul says he’ll get Alison to give her a pill but Holly tells him she would rather not have one. Jean Paul confesses to Holly that he has bad dreams too.  Holly feels sorry for him. At that moment, Jacques possesses Jean Paul.  Unseen by Holly, Jean Paul/Jacques pours a couple drops of something in her drink to help her “sleep”. 

Jean Paul/Jacques Holly why she doesn’t want her mother to have her inheritance money.  Holly says she wants to take anything her mother has because she would do the same to her.  Unobserved on the stairs, Mrs. Marshall hears all of this.  Jean Paul says one who hates can also love, and tells Holly that she will eventually learn this.  Elizabeth interrupts.  Jean Paul/Jacques offers her a drink and Holly excuses herself.  Elizabeth apologizes for Holly but Jean Paul/Jacques tells her she’s a delightful child. He then offers a toast to Elizabeth, and to the fact that she is NOT a child.

Upstairs, Holly discovers Quito outside her bedroom door and screams. Quito indicates that he was guarding her, but Holly doesn’t believe it.  Jean Paul tells Elizabeth that Quito and Raxl think the devil is roaming around the island, and offers a toast to the devil.  Elizabeth confesses to Jean Paul that Holly was fine until her father died, but then asks to change the conversation before saying any more.  Elizabeth tells Jean Paul that she and he are old enough to make up their own rules about things. As things get cozy, Jacques leaves Jean Paul and he removes his hand from around Elizabeth.  She wonders why he changed.  Jean Paul tells her that he has a severe migraine but refuses help.

In the temple, Raxl is still praying.  As she does, Vangie appears on the altar.
Vangie asks why she was summoned, telling Raxl that her death is predicted to happen on Maljardin.  Raxl tells Vangie she needs her, but Vangie says she wants to live and that she’s given up the old ways.  Raxl, however, is insistent.  She says the evil (Jacques) has found a mate (Elizabeth).  Meanwhile, Jean Paul stares at the portrait and is again possessed.  He tells Elizabeth that the headache is gone, almost as if he had taken on another body.

In the temple, Raxl tells Vangie that Jean Paul is like two men since Erica died.  Vangie agrees.  Raxl says she’s seen it many times since the pin was released, and worries that she can’t control the evil.  Vangie tells Raxl she can help but it might be the last time.  She also tells Raxl that she needs help from on Maljardin not from outside.  Vangie sees two protectors - the Rev. Dawson and Dan Forrest - but also senses a strong unknown woman.  They vow to find out whom.  Raxl and Vangie pray and find it’s Elizabeth.  Vangie warns to watch her.

Upstairs, Elizabeth tells Jean Paul that people simply misunderstand her intentions for Holly.  Jean Paul agrees, saying he needs understanding too. As Elizabeth leaves, Jacques leaves Jean Paul and Jean Paul tells him that this time it was he who made his spirit leave his body. Jacques admits that it is so, but tells Jean Paul that it was only one skirmish in a war that is just beginning.
