Maljardin Arc
EPISODE 32

At the café, Mrs. Marshall is disgusted by Jean Paul/Jacques’ inference that she would kill her daughter to get her money. She storms out of the café, but is stopped by Vangie. Jacques confirms that Vangie will perform the séance. Vangie screams, indicating a vision of a problem with the cryonics capsule.

In the crypt, Raxl checks on the gauges of the capsule. She speaks to Erica’s capsule, telling her that there are those who would wish her to remain there forever, as well as those who wish to see Jean Paul possessed forever.

At the café, Jean Paul breaks free of Jacques’ hold and asks Vangie what happened to the capsule. Mrs. Marshall is embarrassed at the sudden change, commenting that people are watching, and wondering why he has these attacks. Jean Paul ignores this, being more concerned about who tampered with the capsule.

Later, Jean Paul and party arrive back at the mansion and Jean Paul heads down the crypt. He asks Raxl what happened and who found the capsule. After some hesitation, Raxl tells him that it was Dan. Jean Paul questions why Dan was in the crypt, and Raxl informs him he was looking for the cyanide, yet tells Jean Paul she has her doubts, as Dan is not convinced about what is going on on the island. Jean Paul wishes to question Dan and his motivations. Raxl tells him they have gone to the cove and Jean Paul mentions there is danger there – danger for anyone who pries into his affairs.

In the drawing room, Mrs. Marshall asks Vangie to read the tarot for her. Vangie tells her she needs no tarot to read her and warns her to leave Jean Paul alone. Vangie says that there are degrees of love – Mrs. Marshall’s kind and Jean Paul’s kind, and that they are at the opposite end of the spectrum

Raxl asks Jean Paul for the doll and pin. Jean Paul has no knowledge of where they are. They both worry about what is happening. Jean Paul orders that the capsule and the gauges need to be checked even more frequently.

Upstairs, Mrs. Marshall tells Vangie she is concerned about Jean Paul’s mood swings. Vangie implies she might be afraid of Jean Paul’s position in life. In the crypt, Jean Paul speaks with Erica of the people who potentially can destroy what he is doing. Jean Paul vows that no one will live if they ruin Erica’s chances of returning.

Mrs. Marshall questions Vangie’s skills as a medium, finding it hard for anyone to subscribe to mystic beliefs. The Reverend appears and Mrs. Marshall leaves, asking where Holly is. Reverend mentions she’s in her room. Vangie is curious as to what happened. Reverend relates Holly falling down the stairs, and that Jean Paul is convinced it was him.

Raxl warns that all on Maljardin must be watched closely; mentioning that only the priestesses of the serpent know what is on their minds. Jean Paul mentions possible human sacrifice, yet Raxl mentions that the altars have been dry for centuries, since the time of Jacques. Jean Paul vows he will do what needs to be done.

In the hall, the Reverend tells Raxl he has searched all over for the cyanide yet cannot find it, and he suggests there might be hidden rooms. Raxl denies this. Raxl relates the that the legend of Maljardin happened before the time of Jacques. She says there were many natives until the island became Jacques’, then everyone left and the curse was born. All of the natives who remained died soon after.

Raxl reveals that there is one who had the power to come and go from Maljardin– the conjure woman. She relates that the tarot cards foretell her death, but Vangie reminds her that it was not specified when.

Jean Paul laments the fact that more and more he has to fight both the devil and the people sent to destroy him. He vows that he and Erica will be back together again, to which Jacques says, mockingly, “of course you will.” Jean Paul is enraged at Jacques’ violating the crypt, but Jacques reminds him of the pact they made and insists Jean Paul will keep it. Jean Paul tells Jacques that he and Erica will eventually conquer and Jacques finishes with “or die trying…”

Upstairs, Raxl asks Vangie why she is on the island and she informs her she wants to contact Erica to see if she agrees to having her body frozen and to Jean Paul’s attempts to resurrect her. Vangie insists she must touch the capsule before the attempt, and Raxl leads her to the crypt. As Vangie places her hands on the capsule, Jean Paul asks what she’s doing, warning her not to disturb the capsule. Vangie asks Jean Paul what he’ll do if he doesn’t like what Erica says and he tells her he will face that when the time comes.

Later, in the drawing room, Jacques taunts Jean Paul about Erica’s condition and Jean Paul demands he stop. Jacques tells him that if they really battle, someone has to die. Jean Paul says it should be Jacques, but Jacques says it could be him, or someone else, yet doesn’t name a candidate.  Frustrated, Jean Paul storms upstairs.
