Voiceover: Raxl - “On Maljardin, Jean Paul Desmond’s isolated domain, loyalties are stretched to the breaking point by the unnerving chain of events. Even the master’s long trusted servants come under the shadow of doubt, when Erica Desmond's blood stained locket is found. And the mystery of its removal from the cryo capsule is deepened by the pearl found within it. Was it fate or the devilish hand of Jacques that caused this long forgotten skull to be disclosed or does it give warning of whom is next – to die.”
In the main hall, Quito brings the skull and puts it on the séance table. Jean Paul notices and asks Quito if Raxl told him to do it – he nods. Jean Paul believes it is the angry spirit that has been plaguing them. If they make contact with it might tell them what they need to do to get rid of it. Jean Paul does not know how long his will can hold out and declares that the séance must happen now.
In her room, Holly and Tim talk. Tim wonders how Holly could participate in the séance and she tells him it’s for Jean Paul. Tim wonders why people keep forgiving Jean Paul, and mentions that Dan seems to be the only person willing to take a stand against him and do something about their predicament. Holly tells Tim to be careful, whatever he does, and he reminds her that she is also in danger.
Downstairs, Jean Paul is waiting for Vangie. The Reverend comes down and tells him Vangie is still preparing. Jean Paul asks if the Reverend will still be participating in the séance and the Reverend tells him that he will be. Jean Paul wonders why people are treating him as tyrant. However, he insists it is for the best – for Erica. Jean Paul asks if the Reverend has been comfortable. The Reverend asks if he means comfortable in body or spirit. Jean Paul becomes irritated and tells the Reverend not to lecture him as he is thinking of the séance and Erica.
In the boathouse, Quito is searching for the conjure doll. After he leaves, Tim and Dan appear from hiding. While they are there the ground begins to shake and Dan says the entire place will be washed away.they need to escape. Dan checks his watch as the shaking subsides. He says he was right – there is a whirlpool that makes it dangerous and he has just timed when the whirlpool stops. When it is high or low tide the water moves in or out. He declares he has found a way off the island.
Later, Tim tells Holly that they will be trying to get off the island that night. He and Dan believe they have time to cross the whirlpool while it is stopped. Tim says the séance is a perfect diversion unless Holly says that she wants him at the séance too.
Downstairs, Jacques tries to possess Jean Paul, but he resists. Jacques warns him that he will be the one to sit at the séance table, not Jean Paul. The Reverend and Dan witness the attack, looking on in puzzlement. The Reverend is worried about Dan’s wish to cross the channel, telling him that the whirlpool is only one part of the crossing. There is no hope. Dan says he and Tim do not agree and tries to convince the Reverend to come along. The Reverend says no, as he belongs on Maljardin.
In the crypt, Jean Paul tells Erica that her return must be soon as he cannot hold out much longer. Later, Tim and Dan attempt to go outside, but Quito stops them. Jean Paul tells him the séance takes place inside and they need to be present. Tim and Dan try to object, but Jean Paul insists. Upstairs, the Reverend calls Holly down to the séance. He informs Holly that all must be present.
As the guests gather in the main hall, Jean Paul informs them that everyone will be carefully observed. Tim asks Holly if she is ok and she admits that she is scared. Jean Paul sends Quito for Raxl so that everyone will be present. Holly asks why the skull is on the séance table and Jean Paul replies that it is Raxl’s contribution. Jean Paul states that he is not afraid of a dead man’s skull as it represents nothing but death and he is looking for life. He sends Raxl for Vangie. Raxl declares to everyone that she has tried to warn them not to participate. Tim and the Reverend attempt to get up, but Jean Paul makes them sit. Alison says that if Erica contacts him from the dead then the experiment is over – he has lost her. However, Jean Paul denies this. He says that Erica will tell them how to bring her back.
Vangie arrives downstairs and declares that someone is missing. Jean Paul is perplexed as everyone is present, but Vangie insists one person has failed to join them – Erica. Vangie asks them all to join hands. Vangie asks Erica for a sign and Holly begins speaking silently. The door opens and Jean Paul screams Erica’s name. Holly says “I am here” but nothing more. Vangie tells everyone that there is a force present that is beyond her powers – she cannot control it. She again asks if the force is Erica. Jean Paul begs Erica to speak if she is present and at that moment a tinkling sound is heard. Jean Paul hears a voice in his head calling for him. The voice tells him that “she” is here and that they will never be parted.
Vangie asks if Erica is a spirit of goodness or if she is evil. She commands her to depart. Erica speaks thru Holly, telling Jean Paul she will come to him soon. Jean Paul asks how but before she can answer, Vangie declares that there is evil present, then Holly screams. In his head, Jean Paul hears Erica’s voice telling him to open her capsule…alone. Holly screams again. Vangie insists they must stop but Jean Paul says no.
Suddenly, Vangie is attacked around the throat by an unseen force…she screams that she is being murdered, but says that it must happen as it was prophesied. Vangie declares that all must leave before…but is unable to finish her sentence. Raxl vows that she will avenge the attack and asks Vangie who dares to harm her. Vangie only says “evil” and asks that she be allowed to die in peace, then she collapses and dies. Jean Paul is shocked by Vangie’s death and asks Vangie to forgive them all. Raxl declares that Vangie is gone but says another has arrived. Bending down, she pulls a pearl from Vangie’s’ hand.
