Voiceover: Mrs. Marshall – “Night has fallen on the cursed island of Maljardin and for the first time one of its unwilling guests is to be allowed to leave, but Erica, the wife of the master of Maljardin, has been warned by the evil which possesses her that should anyone leave the island she must return to the land of the dead.”

Erica speaks to the portrait of Jacques, asking for his help. Jacques tells her that he must move from his time to hers to help and tells Erica to summon Jean Paul. Jean Paul comes downstairs and Erica tells him that she was just admiring the portrait. She asks him to look at it as well, but he refuses. The portrait speaks to Jean Paul, commanding him to look at it. He attempts to resist, and asks Erica to help him. Before jean Paul gives in, the others arrive for dinner – Raxl has summoned them early. Jacques speaks to Erica and tells her that before anyone leaves Jean Paul must be under his power or she will cease to exist.

After dinner, Jean Paul rests in his room. Erica joins him and asks him what is wrong. Jean Paul tells her that something is troubling him, and influence that he must fight. Erica asks him why he is fighting her. Jean Paul assures her that he is not, but insists that he must have time to think. Erica tells him that there is no time. She says she will wait in the great hall and eventually he will come -he has no choice. As she leaves Jean Paul hears her voice telling him that he will not refuse her again. Jean Paul enters the secret room and retrieves the conjure doll and pin. He is about to pierce the doll’s head but stops short as he still hears Erica’s voice calling him. Jean Paul hides the doll in his coat and heads downstairs. Downstairs, Erica asks Jacques if Jean Paul will come. Jacques replies that he must – he has no idea how strong they are. Erica is worried about Jean Paul being possessed, but Jacques tells her that Jean Paul will never know the truth until he is possessed.

Jean Paul enters the room and asks Erica why she is standing in front of Jacques’ portrait. Erica asks him why he is shuddering and Jean Paul tells her that Jacques sold himself to the devil. Erica reminds him that he did as well and tells Jean Paul to look at the portrait. Jacques speaks to Jean Paul, asking why he is fighting him. Jean Paul tells Jacques he must not use Erica to try and trick him. Jacques commands Jean Paul to look at the portrait. Jean Paul turns to look, revealing the doll and pin. As Jean Paul attempts to pierce the doll’s head Erica kisses him, transferring Jacques’ spirit into him as she does so.

Possessed, Jean Paul/Jacques promises to help Erica now that Jean Paul is out of the way. Erica wonders what happens when Jean Paul is taken over; Jacques tells her that he stands motionless in time. Erica asks Jacques if jean Paul will hate her when he comes out of his possession. Jacques ignores her, saying that no one can stop them now. He tells Erica to possess Holly quickly, and says that he cannot control Holly as something protects her – Tim. Erica tells Jacques that Tim is leaving, but Jacques insists that he must be stopped. He tells Erica to delay Tim. She asks why and Jacques replies “so he may die.” He goes on to tell Erica that this is the price she must pay for her second life. His second life is secure, but hers will end if Holly is not possessed before someone leaves the island.

Tim descends the stairs looking for Quito. Jacques tells Tim that he is in the boathouse. Tim is skeptical. He tells Jean Paul that he will stay at the café until Holly and Mrs. Marshall join him. He says that Holly is under Jean Paul’s influence which is preventing her from leaving. Jean Paul/Jacques feigns innocence. Tim threatens to tell the story of what really happened on Maljardin unless Holly and Mrs. Marshall join him. Jacques asks Tim what happened to the grateful young artist and Tim tells him that he simply grew up. Tim spots the conjure doll on the floor and asks what it is. Erica tells him it is a voodoo doll and offers it to him, saying she will keep the pin. Tim takes the doll and goes to say good bye to Mrs. Marshall. After Tim leaves, Jacques tells Erica she must detain him until the higher powers give permission for his death.

Erica finds Tim in her room looking at his painting. He tells her that he was getting his final things. Erica asks Tim if he wants the sketch of Holly, mentioning that Jean Paul kept it in his secret room. She declares that she wants it off the island as well. Erica opens the secret room and tells Tim to go in and get the sketch. Tim is hesitant but eventually enters. Jean Paul enters as Erica locks the door to the secret room. She tells Jean Paul/Jacques that it is done and says that it is now up to him.

Locked in the secret room, Tim pleads to be let out. Outside, Jacques says that permission has been given and calls on a higher power. Erica tries to leave, but Jacques prevents her, telling her that she is now one of them. She was eager to return and any price and now that price must be paid. Jacques invites the mark of death. After the mark appears on his hand, he enters the secret room to kill Tim. At that moment, Mrs. Marshall knocks on the door, looking for Tim. Erica tells her that Tim has already left the island. Mrs. Marshall is surprised to hear that. She notices the books on Jean Paul’s shelf and goes to take a look at them. Erica tells her that she needs to be alone, so Mrs. Marshall turns to leave. As she exits, she finds Tim’s palette knife on the floor and is confused, as Tim told her that it was a good luck charm. Mrs. Marshall can’t imagine Tim leaving without it. Baffled, she turns and leaves.

After Mrs. Marshall departs, Jacques emerges from the secret room. He tells Erica the job is done. Erica tells him to just leave the body in the secret room. Jacques laughs, telling Erica that they have cheated Jean Paul, as she is not the loving, gentle woman he expected. She is in love with Jacques. They kiss, and as they do so, Jacques leaves Jean Paul. Jean Paul cannot remember anything. In a panic, he asks Erica what has happened and she shows him Tim’s body. Jean Paul denies killing Tim, but he realizes that the others were right – he has brought evil to the island.
