In the main hall, Jean Paul sits despondently on the couch. As the clock strikes 3AM he stares at the painting of Jacques. Jacques laughs at him, wondering why Jean Paul is still up. Jean Paul demands that Jacques not interfere with the cryonics process or the séance. Jacques tells Jean Paul he will not, and demands Jean Paul end his resistance to him.

In the lab, Alison is asleep. Jean Paul enters and wakes her. He asks her why she is working so late. She tells him that she wants to assimilate Menkin's notes to find out if he was on to something. She says she has little else to do as they are essentially all prisoners on the island. She bids him goodnight and leaves.

Outside, Quito discovers a rabbit which he brings into the house. Holly notices the rabbit, asking Quito where he found him. Holly is curious and relates to Quito that Raxl told her nothing like a rabbit had exited on Maljardin for over 300 years. She tells Quito she’d like to keep the rabbit, so Quito gives the rabbit to her. He agrees to build her a cage for the rabbit and heads to the crypt. In his room, Quito gets a basket from under the bed and prepares to put the rabbit in it.

Alison enters the lab and find Jean Paul still there from the night before. She says he is driving himself too much trying to understand Menkin’s notes. She says that without the missing notes she cannot guess if Menkin was on the right track.

In the dining room, Holly tells Jean Paul that she will not be a part of the séance. Raxl tells her that only the sprits will decide that, but Jean Paul says that they may choose another. In the main hall, Alison asks Raxl to change Jean Paul's mind about the séance, but Raxl tells her she cannot. Alison confesses to Raxl that Jean Paul is not the man she knew. Holly wonders what she means. Holly tells Alison that Quito has found her a live rabbit from outside. Alison is surprised since nothing alive can exist outside. She asks Holly if Raxl knows, and at that moment Raxl overhears and asks about what.

Speaking to the portrait, Jean Paul demands where Jacques' help is. Jacques chides Jean Paul, telling him that if he tries his patience there may be no séance. Jean Paul turns in anger to see Alison standing there. She advises Jean Paul once again that he is not in the proper condition to conduct a séance, but Jean Paul refuses to listen. Jean Paul tells Alison that if she needs animals for experimentation he will send Quito to the mainland tomorrow.
Quito brings the rabbit up from the crypt and gives it to Holly. Jean Paul wonders where she got the rabbit and Holly tells him Quito gave it to her. Jean Paul asks Raxl about the rabbit. She believes that the rabbit is an instrument of evil, and prays to the great serpent to explain how the devil’s evil got into the house.

Jean Paul asks Quito if he found the rabbit on Maljardin and Raxl says he found it on the path to the boathouse. Holly suggests it might have stowed away on the boat, but Raxl is convinced it was brought by the devil for Quito to find. Holly can’t believe that. Even Jean Paul says it is a stretch. Raxl insists that the rabbit must be destroyed as it might prevent Jean Paul from contacting Erica. Jean Paul is confused. At that moment, Jacques reminds Jean Paul that he can make him suffer, and tells him not to fight him anymore.
