In the main hall, Jean Paul enters looking for Vangie. Raxl tells him she is resting. Raxl insists that the rabbit is another bad omen, because no creature has lived on Maljardin for 300 years. She tells Jean Paul that the rabbit is a manifestation of evil, an emissary of death. Jean Paul dismisses Raxl as simply being superstitious. He tells her the rabbit is innocent and could have stowed away on the boat. He accuses Raxl of being possessed by fear. Raxl counters that the devil is slowly possessing them all.

Raxl and Quito descend to the crypt. Talking to Erica’s capsule, Raxl tells Erica that another evil spirit is among them, and that Jacques has found an ally. She laments that Jean Paul will not listen to her.

Upstairs, Jacques speaks with Jean Paul, implying that the rabbit is supernatural, and that it somehow is connected to him. Jean Paul wonders if Raxl is correct and asks Jacques what is on his mind. Jacques tells him he’ll find out at the séance. Jacques poses the question of Erica not wanting to speak to Jean Paul, telling Jean Paul that perhaps Erica does not want a new life. He repeats that they will find out at the next séance.

The Reverend enters and says he swore he heard Jean Paul talking to himself. Jean Paul ignores this, instead asking the Reverend if he is losing his faith. The Reverend admits that it was so for a while but he seems to be recapturing it. He gives Jean Paul warning, telling him that the others are not completely powerless, and saying that they will find a way to cut the knots that bind them. Jean Paul is dismissive, telling the Reverend that he is losing his faculties. The Reverend insists that he will have the last word – not everyone will listen to or obey Jean Paul. Jean Paul says the Reverend has appointed himself his adversary. The Reverend responds by saying that it was his destiny to be a force of good among all the evil on Maljardin, and suggests that perhaps there is someone on Maljardin who needs saving – from himself.

In the temple, Raxl prays to the great serpent. She asks what she should do with the rabbit. Receiving no response, she blames the presence of the rabbit and commands Quito to take it away. In the secret room, Jean Paul wonders how Erica will find him when they are together again. He admits that the Reverend is a good man, and would be an ally if he saw the cause was right.

Downstairs, Holly worries about what is happening to the rabbit. She heads to the crypt but is stopped by the Reverend. In the temple, Raxl notices a locket on the rabbit’s neck that was not there before. It is covered in blood. Quito denies having seen it. Raxl is convinced she is right about the rabbit being a harbinger of evil. Quito exits the temple and catches Holly and the Reverend on the stairs. He chases them back upstairs. Holly wants to know where the rabbit is and Raxl says it’s gone – it has disappeared. Raxl says they will search for it and sends Quito down to guard Erica.

Raxl swears the evil in the house is growing stronger. Holly says she doesn’t believe Raxl is looking for the rabbit, but rather that she has killed it. As they argue, the Reverend discovers the rabbit. Holly takes it, but Raxl demands that it be destroyed. The Reverend stops her as Jean Paul comes down the stairs and takes the rabbit from Holly. As he takes it, the locket around the rabbit’s neck falls off. Jean Paul picks it up and is shocked to find that it was Erica’s

Finding the locket convinces Jean Paul that Erica is near. Raxl explains to Jean Paul that that she was seeking to find out about the rabbit and suddenly the locket appeared around its neck. The Reverend mocks her superstitions and Raxl tells him he is a fool to do so, as she is in touch with the Great Serpent. Jean Paul tells everyone that  Erica was wearing the locket when she died and it was sealed in the capsule with her. He wonders how it came to be outside of the capsule.
