Maljardin Arc
EPISODE 62

Voiceover: Raxl“Maljardin, a place of growing terror and death, as one by one its unwilling guests are murdered through Erica Desmond, returned form the dead only to bring evil and destruction to the island and to her husband, the accursed Jean Paul.”

In the great hall, Jean Paul speaks to Alison, Holly and Mrs. Marshall, telling them that Tim is dead. Mrs. Marshall accuses Jean Paul of murder. Alison tells Jean Paul that he must stop Erica. Holly denies that it is Erica. Jean Paul says that it doesn’t matter. They must all leave now before it is too late.

Holly refuses to leave, saying that she doesn’t want Jean Paul and Erica to face the evil alone. Jean Paul tells Holly that he wants her to go. Holly is confused by this, as Jean Paul and Erica were like a family to her. Alison tells Holly that she must leave with her mother.  Alison says she will stay as Erica is her sister. They can take her to a hospital on the mainland. Jean Paul tells her that Erica will not leave, but Alison says that they will force her. Jean Paul will not allow it. He repeats that everyone has to leave and storms out. Holly tells her mother that if she makes her leave she will never forgive her and walks away. Raxl tells Mrs. Marshall Quito will have that boat ready as that night and suggests that she leave while she can.

Erica tells Jean Paul that he had no right to let anyone leave as she will no longer survive if anyone leaves the island. Jean Paul tells her that perhaps that is why he asked everyone to leave. Erica does not believe that, as Jean Paul loves her and he’s too good to purposely allow her to perish. Jean Paul tells her that perhaps it’s time he played the devil’s game. Erica asks him if he is now Jacques as he is not the same, but Jean Paul assures her that he is himself. Erica tells Jean Paul she still loves him, no matter what the devil makes her do. Jean Paul tells her that she is only and evil imitation of Erica, and says that he doesn’t care what they become, but tells her to leave everyone else alone. Erica tells Jean Paul that she needs Holly’s soul or she will die. Jean Paul asks Erica if he should even care.

At the dock, Quito prepares the boat for everyone to leave. Raxl vows that they shall set the others free and remain until Erica goes back to hell. In the main hall, Erica asks the portrait for help. Jacques asks if he should care. Erica tells Jacques that she no longer has any control over Jean Paul. She tells Jacques that he must stop him, and he tells Erica that he will help.

In the lab, Jean Paul is packing Alison’s and Menkin's things. Alison says she cannot leave, but Jean Paul insists. She tells jean Paul that the notes say that there is a warning somewhere within them. Jean Paul tells Alison that he needs no other warnings – he knows that he should never have brought Erica back. Alison tells Jean Paul that certain biochemical changes can occur when people return from a different state and Erica can be helped. Jean Paul tells Alison that Erica never can be changed. He confesses that Erica was brought back by the devil and that Alison has no choice but to leave the island. He assures Alison that he will not desert Erica. They will lives on Maljardin for the rest of their lives. Alison tells Jean Paul that she still wants to help. Jean Paul again insists Alison leave, but Alison says Erica will not harm her. Jean Paul tells her that Erica is not in control – evil is.

In the crypt, Raxl confronts Erica with a candle and she is terrified. She promises that she will be Raxl’s friend. Raxl tells her that she does not make friends with Satan. Erica warns Raxl that if she threatens her again she’ll find herself with her god – in hell. Raxl tells Quito to guard Holly until she leaves.

Later, in the lab, Erica and Alison talk. Alison asks Erica if she believes she loves her. Erica assures her that she does. Erica tells Alison that she can help her by keeping Holly there. Alison asks why and Erica tells her that she needs Holly to live. If Holly leaves she will die. Alison does not believe this, but Erica insists that she will be nothing if Holly leaves. Alison refuses to believe this. Erica tells Alison that she needs to take possession of Holly. She also tells Alison that in order to possess Holly she had to kill – she confesses to all of the previous killings. Erica also reveals that she was trapped in the body of the black rabbit. She tells Alison that she is evil, but Alison does not believe her. She thinks it is all a nightmare. Erica again asks if she will help. She says that if she can be sure she will live perhaps she could find her way back to goodness.

Alison tells Erica that Jean Paul believes they cannot change fate. Erica says Jean Paul is a child. She loves him because he is useful. Alison tells her that the only way to help is to study the notes and then to get to a hospital. Erica tears the notes up and tells Alison to go. She tells Alison that she will remember her as the sister who could not help her stop killing. Erica also tells Alison that she hates her but cannot harm her.

Later, Quito and Holly return from a walk outside. The flowers are now gone from the island. Mrs. Marshall descends the stairs, telling Holly she is all packed. She asks Quito to get her luggage. Quito is hesitant to leave Holly. Mrs. Marshall opens the door to look out. Jean Paul arrives and Mrs. Marshall thanks him for releasing them all. Jean Paul apologizes for the harm he caused and tells Mrs. Marshall that he cares for Holly. She replies that she does, too, and asks Jean Paul if he believes her. She knows she has been difficult in the past. Alison comes down and tells Jean Paul that she will stay if he wants her to. Jean Paul mentions that there are things happening on the island more mysterious than anyone realizes. Alison insists on helping as Erica is her sister. Jean Paul wonders if Erica really is substantive, or just a shadow.

Erica enters and tells Jean Paul that she is not a shadow, but rather a real human being. She asks all to join her for a farewell dinner. Mrs. Marshall refuses. Erica asks them all to at least have a drink with her as a farewell. Erica attempts to send Quito away but he will not leave. Raxl tells her that she has asked Quito to remain with Holly, so Erica allows him to remain.

In the dining room, Erica pours wine for the remaining guesses. Jean Paul hands his glass to Holly, but Erica takes it back. As the guests talk of leaving on the boat, Erica inserts poison into Holly’s glass and sets it down in front of her. Alison notices this and switches the glass with her own. Alison purposely drinks from the poisoned glass. Erica realizes what she has done and screams for her to stop, as Alison drops the glass to the table.
