Voiceover: Mrs. Marshall – “Nightfall comes to the island of Maljardin and a tide rises to its fullest so that soon a boat may leave for the mainland to bring Holly and Elizabeth to freedom, but inside the evil mansion the hostess proposes a farewell toast.”
At the dining room table, Alison sips a glass of poisoned wine and collapses. As Alison dies she asks Erica “do you see how much I loved…”, but the sentence goes unfinished. Jean Paul orders everyone to the boats as he hears Jacques laughter in his head. A storm has come up and Mrs. Marshall worries that the boat will capsize. Holly feels sorry for Erica, seemingly unaware of Alison’s death. She says she cannot leave as she wants to stay with Erica. Jean Paul orders Holly to her room. Raxl looks at the portrait and vows that the storm will die. Jean Paul again orders Holly to her room, but she will not go until Erica says she should.
Mrs. Marshall accuses Erica of murder. Erica feigns shocked at this. Holly tells Erica not to listen to her mother. Mrs. Marshall begs Holly to open her eyes and see what Erica has done – the poison Alison drank was meant for her. Holly tells her mother that she hates her, but Elizabeth insists that she is telling her the truth and warns Holly to stay away from Erica. Jean Paul finally forces Holly to go to her room. Raxl orders Quito to follow her. Erica tries to stop Quito, telling Raxl that she will not have Quito interfering. Quito moves to attack Erica and Jean Paul orders Raxl to stop him. She does, but warns that it is only this time. Holly tells Quito he must never attack Erica again. Mrs. Marshall asks Jean Paul why he didn’t warn Holly about Erica. Erica is upset with this, calling Mrs. Marshall heartless. Mrs. Marshall counters, telling Erica that she is the heartless one.
Mrs. Marshal is frightened, and asks Jean Paul if they will even live long enough to be able to leave. Jean Paul looks at Erica and vows that he will fight her. He tells her that Holly and her mother will leave. Outside, Raxl prays to her ancestors to stop the storm and make the evil depart.
Later, in the crypt, Jean Paul speaks to Alison's body. He tells her that he tried to warn her, but she would not listen. He tells Alison that Erica is evil and that she died as a result of Erica’s dark powers. He believes Erica plans to destroy them all, and asks Alison to pray to God for all of them.
Upstairs, Quito keeps watch over Holly. Holly tells him that Erica will take care of her. She hears Erica’s voice insider her head, promising her that no harm will befall her. Jean Paul enters and asks Quito to step outside the door. He speaks to Holly and asks her to promise to stay away from Erica as long as she remains on the island. Downstairs, Erica asks Jacques for help. Jacques laughs, telling Erica that Jean Paul is powerless to act because he carries the mark of death.
Upstairs, Jean Paul hears the sound of a heartbeat. Holly wonders what is wrong. Jean Paul cannot control his hands and begins to strangle Holly. Quito hears holly scream and attempts to strangle Jean Paul, but he comes out of his trance as he does so, unaware of having done anything. Holly tells Quito to let him go and says that she wants to see Erica.
Outside, Raxl asks the serpent god to return to Maljardin. She calms the seas and makes them still and silences the lightning. Inside, Mrs. Marshall notices that the storm is over. Jean Paul tells Mrs. Marshall that she must leave now, but then comes to his senses and says that they must wait until morning Mrs. Marshall asks Jean Paul what is wrong. Jean Paul begs Mrs. Marshall to guard Holly from him and from all of the evils on Maljardin. He tells Elizabeth to convince Holly that he is her enemy. Mrs. Marshall declares that she truly loves Holly, especially now that she is in danger, Jean Paul pleads with her to tell Holly that if she cannot her mother she can trust no one.
Raxl enters Holly’s room and tells Holly that she is in danger. She warns her not to listen to Jean Paul or Erica. She explains to Holly that Erica has worked to possess her, and asks Holly to trust her and Quito. She informs Holly that she protected her when she was in the trance at the séance. Holly is now convinced that Raxl is trying to help her. Raxl warns Holly not to let anyone into her room and to speak to no one until they place her on the boat. She advises Holly to trust her. If she does not, her soul will burn, crying out alone in eternal fire.
Later, Holly hears a knock on her door. It is her mother. Holly allows her in. Mrs. Marshall asks Holly to trust her, at least as friend. She confesses to Holly that she never really knew how to be a mother to her. Holly asks Quito to remove her mother, but Elizabeth refuses. She asks Holly if they can start a new life together. Holly laughs, telling her mother that she is only interested in the money that she will inherit. Mrs. Marshall tells her that there is no inheritance. She informs Holly that she had the legal power to spend the money and she did. She simply used the idea of the inheritance as a hold over Holly, to keep her close. Holly tells her mother that she really didn’t care about the money. She just wanted her mother to love her.
Downstairs, Jean Paul tells Erica that Holly her mother will be leaving immediately. They will not wait until the morning. Erica asks what is to happen to her and Jean Paul tells her to ask Jacques about that. He tells Erica that they will live and die together on Maljardin. Erica tells Jean Paul that that is all she really wanted. She wanted to be with him because she loves him.
Quito brings Holly and her mother down. They are ready to leave. Erica beckons Holly to come to her but Mrs. Marshall stops her. Raxl interrupts Erica before she can try again. Holly and her mother head for the main door and Jean Paul commands Erica to remain behind. Holly hesitates. She is torn between leaving and staying with Erica. Raxl insists that she must leave, and they eventually depart, leaving Erica alone with the portrait.
Erica tells Jacques that it is over and that she has lost. Jacques tells her that she is a foolish woman. She must have spirit if she wants to live. Jacques tells Erica that she must place Holly in a trance and then plunge the silver nail from the conjure doll into her heart. Erica wonders how she can do this, as Holly is leaving. Jacques repeats that Holly must be stopped. Again Erica asks how, but receives no answer. Jean Paul returns and tells Erica that they are now alone. He warns Erica never to speak to the portrait again, telling her that they should be together – in hatred. Hand in hand, they head upstairs.
At that moment holly and her mother enter, telling Jean Paul that the boat is gone. There is no way to the mainland. Jean Paul stands stunned as a smile crosses Erica’s face.
